Property taxes in Arlington

Property taxes in Arlington are the sum of every taxing unit that covers your address, applied to the appraised value minus exemptions. Because the city spans five school districts, the total changes across town. Here is how the bill is built and how to manage it.

Which taxing units are on an Arlington tax bill?

A typical bill includes the City of Arlington, Tarrant County, the school district, the Tarrant County Hospital District (JPS) and Tarrant County College, plus any special district.

For tax year 2025, Tarrant County lists these adopted rates per $100 of value. Arlington ISD: $1.0929. City of Arlington: $0.6298. Tarrant County: $0.1862. JPS: $0.165. Tarrant County College: $0.1123. That totals about $2.19 before exemptions.

How do other school districts change the total?

School districts are the largest line. Mansfield ISD adopted $1.1469 and Fort Worth ISD $1.0291 for tax year 2025, so an Arlington home in those districts has a different total.

Rates are adopted each year, usually in late summer. Look up any address on the Tarrant Appraisal District site to see its taxing units before you make an offer.

How does the homestead exemption work in Arlington?

School districts must exempt $140,000 of a homestead's value. Owners 65 or older, or disabled, get an additional $60,000 school exemption. Any taxing unit may also adopt a local option exemption of up to 20%.

File with the Tarrant Appraisal District once the home is your principal residence. The general deadline is before May 1, and filing is free. After that, Texas caps the yearly increase in the homestead's appraised value at 10%, plus new improvements.

How do I protest my Arlington appraisal?
