Which taxing units are on an Irving tax bill?
A typical bill includes the City of Irving, Dallas County, the school district, Parkland Hospital and Dallas College, plus any special district.
For tax year 2025, the Dallas County Tax Office lists these rates per $100 of value. Irving ISD: $1.0159. City of Irving: $0.5891. Dallas County: $0.2155. Parkland Hospital: $0.212. Dallas College: $0.106575. That totals about $2.14 before exemptions.
How do other school districts change the total?
In the parts of Irving served by other districts, the school line changes. For tax year 2025, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD's rate was $0.9481 and Coppell ISD's was $0.9819.
Rates are adopted each year. Look up the exact account on the Dallas Central Appraisal District site to see its taxing units.
How does the homestead exemption work in Irving?
School districts must exempt $140,000 of a homestead's value. Owners 65 or older, or disabled, get an additional $60,000 school exemption. Any taxing unit may also adopt a local option exemption of up to 20%.
File with the Dallas Central Appraisal District once you own and live in the home. The general deadline is before May 1, and the application is free. If you buy after January 1, you can qualify for the part of the year after you move in if the seller did not already receive the exemption.
How much can my appraised value rise?
With a homestead exemption in place, Texas limits the yearly increase in the homestead's appraised value to 10%, plus new improvements.
A sale can reset the picture, because the seller's exemptions end at closing. Budget on your purchase price, not last year's bill.
How do I protest my Irving appraisal?
The appraisal district mails value notices each spring. You can protest by May 15 or within 30 days after the notice is mailed, whichever is later.
Bring recent sales of similar homes. Start with the home value tool, and Mariela can pull comparable sales.
Do PIDs, MUDs or Las Colinas fees apply?
Irving has special districts, such as PID No. 3 in the Parkside area. When a property is in a PID or MUD, Texas Water Code Section 49.452 requires the seller to give written notice, and TREC publishes a form.
The Las Colinas Association assessment is separate from taxes but belongs in your budget. Add everything in the mortgage calculator.
