Does a Fort Worth pool need a permit?

Yes. Fort Worth Development Services says all accessory structures, including swimming pools, need a building permit. Ask the seller for the pool permit and final inspection. Also ask for permits for any later decking, patio cover or electrical work.

Check with Development Services that the barrier and gates meet the city's current rules. In Fort Worth, a fence also needs its own permit in two cases: a solid fence taller than 7 feet, or an open fence taller than 8 feet.

What should I inspect on a Fort Worth pool home?

Book a pool inspection as well as the general inspection. Ask the inspector to check the shell for cracks and the deck for movement. They should also check the pump, filter and heater, plus the bonding and electrical work.

Clay soils are common across North Texas. They swell when wet and shrink when dry. Look for gaps where the deck meets the house, and ask for foundation repair records. Tell your insurance agent about the pool when you ask for a quote.
