Which taxing units are on a Fort Worth tax bill?
A typical bill includes the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, the school district, the Tarrant County Hospital District (JPS) and Tarrant County College. Some homes also pay a PID assessment.
For tax year 2025, Tarrant County lists these adopted rates per $100 of value. Fort Worth ISD: $1.0291. City of Fort Worth: $0.67. Tarrant County: $0.1862. JPS: $0.165. Tarrant County College: $0.1123. That totals about $2.16 before exemptions.
What changed for tax year 2026?
On September 15, 2026, the City Council adopted $0.70565 per $100 for tax year 2026. The city's notice says the rate will effectively raise taxes by 4.01%.
Other school districts in Fort Worth had different tax year 2025 rates, such as Keller ISD at $1.0852, Northwest ISD at $1.0841, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD at $1.2457 and Crowley ISD at $1.2552. Always ask for the total rate for the exact address.
How does the homestead exemption work in Fort Worth?
School districts must exempt $140,000 of a homestead's value, plus $60,000 more for owners 65 or older or disabled. Any taxing unit may also adopt a local option exemption of up to 20%.
File with the Tarrant Appraisal District, or Denton CAD if your home is in Denton County. The general deadline is before May 1, and there is no fee. Once you have the exemption, the yearly increase in the homestead's appraised value is capped at 10%, plus new improvements.
